What does the river sound like?
Close, moving water. You hear soft ripples and small gurgles at many pitches at once, the way water sounds where it runs over stones near a bank, rather than the single roar of a waterfall. Some tracks are a narrow brook, others a broader, slower river, but each keeps the same gentle level from start to end: no splash that makes you look up, and no sudden change.
How is a river different from rain?
Rain is spread out: a wide hiss with no center. A river has movement in it, a current you can almost follow, and more detail in the middle of the range. Both sit between white and brown noise in tone. If you like the even hiss, try Rain; if you like a little motion inside the sound, stay with River.
River or a noise color?
A noise color is the same every second, by design. River changes a little all the time, in small ways that stay inside one steady scene. If even that much detail is too much, white noise at a low level is the nearest plain sound to a fast stream heard from a few steps away, and pink noise to a fuller, slower river.
How do I play it?
In the web player or the app, tap River under Nature. On Premium it plays one track after another for hours; the sleep timer can stop it after 15 minutes to 8 hours.
Speaker or headphones?
Either works. A speaker gives the water a place in the room; headphones bring the detail closer. Keep the volume low enough that you would still hear someone speak to you.
