Background Noises is a white noise and background sound app for iPhone and iPad, in the App Store, and for Android phones and tablets, on Google Play. The apps play the same sounds as the web player, on the same account. A plan follows the account, and the apps add AirPlay and Chromecast.

What do the apps add?

Listening with the screen locked. On iPhone and iPad, the sound keeps playing when you lock the screen or switch apps.
AirPlay and Chromecast, to play through a speaker or a TV on the same Wi-Fi network.

Is the app free?

It is free to start: Free plays a 60-second sample of everything, with no card. Premium, the one paid plan, plays the eight music and four nature stations, the noise colors and the tones for hours. In the apps, the App Store or Google Play sets the price in your currency and shows it before you buy. On the web, the plan offer in the web player shows Premium and its price, and plans and prices compares the two plans.

Can I buy a plan in the app?

Yes. In the apps, the App Store or Google Play sets the price in your currency and shows it before you buy. Apple or Google bills it and handles renewals. Apple decides refunds of App Store purchases; for a Google Play purchase, ask Google or us. A plan follows your account, so a plan bought in an app also works in the web player when you sign in there, and a plan bought on the web works in the apps. If a purchase does not show on a new phone, open Settings (the gear on the main screen) and tap Restore purchases.

How do I manage or cancel a plan I bought in the app?

On iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android: the Google Play app, your profile, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions. Cancelling there stops the next renewal; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Removing the app does not cancel anything.

What happens the first time I open the app?

The app may show a health and safety notice before anything plays. After that you can play the free samples straight away, or sign in with Apple, Google or an email address to bring your plan with you.

Who publishes the apps?

Third Space LLC, which makes and runs Background Noises, publishes the apps, and the stores show it as the seller. The service the apps connect to is run for us by eleMusic Inc., a separate company, which is why this site says Powered by eleMusic at the foot of every page. An app that has not taken the latest update still connects to the earlier service, which we run ourselves, until it updates.

Can I delete my account from the app?

Yes: open Settings (the gear on the main screen), then Delete account. You can also delete it on the web at bgnoises.com/delete-account. Deleting the account does not cancel a plan you bought through Apple or Google; cancel that in the store as well.

What about the web player?

The web player plays every sound, in a browser on a computer, a tablet or a phone, with nothing to install. Open the player, or see plans and prices.
