Brown noise at night
On Premium, tap it, set the volume low and let it run for hours.
To play brown noise at night on Premium, tap Brown Noise under Noise and let it run: it plays for up to 12 hours; the Free plan plays a 60-second sample. We make no claim about what it does to your sleep; what it does is fill the room with a low, steady sound that does not change.

Should I set the sleep timer?
Only if you want it to stop at a time you choose. Without a timer, brown noise plays on Premium for up to 12 hours. With one, it stops after 15, 30 or 45 minutes, or 1, 1.5, 2, 4 or 8 hours.
Will it keep playing with the phone locked?
On iPhone and iPad, yes: the app keeps playing with the screen locked. For a long session, plug the phone in. Turn on Do Not Disturb if you do not want a message alert or a ringtone to sound over it. In the web player, leave the tab open while it plays.
Speaker or headphones?
Brown noise does not need headphones. A speaker on the nightstand is enough, and it is easier on your ears over eight hours. If you do sleep in earbuds, set the volume lower than you would for a speaker, since the sound is right at your ear.
Why does it sound thin on my phone?
Brown noise is mostly bass, and a phone's speaker reproduces little of the deepest bass. What reaches you is the upper part of the rumble. A small bedside speaker keeps more of it. More about brown noise.
How quiet is quiet enough?
Set the level before you lie down: just loud enough that a passing car or a creaking floor fades into the noise, and no louder. Sounds you play for hours should stay low. If you share the room with a baby, read white noise and babies before you leave anything playing near the crib.
What if I want a sound that changes during the night?
Brown noise stays the same from the first minute to the last. If you would rather have something with more texture, try Rain or River. And sounds for sleep compares everything that plays tonight.
Press play.
The Free plan plays a 60-second sample of everything. Premium plays the eight music and four nature stations, the noise colors and the tones for hours.
